Eurocave Celebrates 50 Years as the Inventor of the Modern Wine Cabinet

Half a century of French craftsmanship, refined by time

This year, EuroCave, the French maison that invented the modern wine cabinet, celebrates fifty years devoted to the art of wine. From the leather-lined Champagne Cabinet to the design-led Harmonie, its cabinets are trusted by collectors, sommeliers and wine lovers in more than 70 countries. To mark the milestone, the brand has unveiled a new signature that sums up half a century of expertise: refined by time.

The story began in 1976 in Fourmies, northern France, with a simple ambition: to recreate the conditions of a natural wine cellar. A stable temperature, controlled humidity, no vibration, complete darkness, gentle air circulation and tailored bottle storage were pioneering technology then. Today they are the worldwide standard for keeping wine.

“We have a responsibility to preserve a heritage. EuroCave has never compromised on its values”
— Benoît Favier, CEO of EuroCave

Fifty years on, Fourmies remains the heart of the brand. Every EuroCave cabinet sold around the world is still designed and made there by engineers, refrigeration specialists and technicians who build each one to last. They use robust materials, design every cabinet with repair in mind and keep parts available for years to come. It is a rare commitment in a market where durability and sustainability matter more than ever.

That same expertise lies behind the innovations that shaped the category: the first ageing cabinet to reproduce natural cellar conditions, modular 12-slot shelving inspired by the classic 12-bottle case, and multi-temperature cabinets for professional wine service. The Champagne Cabinet was the first wine cellar to feature leather, while Harmonie reimagined the horizontal wine cabinet as a piece of design furniture.

“We have a responsibility to preserve a heritage. EuroCave has never compromised on its values: respect for wine, product excellence and French manufacturing. This is why we maintain such strong relationships with our clients today” says Benoît Favier, CEO of EuroCave.

The anniversary comes as the culture of wine is changing. Premium consumption is rising, private collections are growing, professional demand continues to build, and design-led homes increasingly treat wine as part of the interior rather than something hidden away.
