Pura Aventura Enters the Shoulder Season with Walking Meets Wine and Food Trips on Spain's Costa de la Luz

While there are days of superb hiking, along the cliff tops and through pine forests, the new trip is much more than just a walking holiday. Cadiz Coast: Atlantic Walks and Local Flavour
This new trip brings to light the Costa de la Luz, a special part of Andalucia, and one that offers a tempting shoulder season destination, with its warm seas and welcome, and fabulous local food. The holiday begins in Zahara de la Atunes, where a two-night stay just steps from the beach eases you into the pace of life on the Cádiz coast. There’s a guided walk through the cork forests of the Alcornocales Natural Park, building an appetite for a hearty home-cooked lunch, sampling some of the region’s cuisine. Then, there’s a visit to Baelo Claudia, one of Iberia’s finest Roman sites, from where views stretch all the way to Africa.
With guests’ bags transferred ahead, next is a walk through the pines of the Barbate Natural Park to Caños de Meca and then a transfer up to the hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera. This ‘pueblos blanco’, or ‘White Town’ is one of Andalucia’s most beautiful, and is forging a reputation as a culinary hub too. Here, the pace slows, and whether guests want to follow the gentle Ruta Molinos de Viento, or simply soak up the bar and tapas culture of Vejer alongside the self-guided audio tour, there’s much to entice. A highlight is the walk along to Cabo Roche, where quiet coves and turquoise waters tempt for a swim.
The final of the three-centre stays is in Cádiz itself. En route to the charming, historic city, guests call in at an organic vineyard for a tasting and tour, and learn the secrets of sherry at a family-run cellar. On the guided tour of Cádiz, at an unhurried pace, there’s the chance to learn about the city’s Phoenican and Roman history, visit lively markets and hidden courtyards and enjoy a leisurely lunch.
