Heritage-Inspired Hotel
The Vintage is a five-star boutique hotel that pairs minimalist interiors with heritage-inspired design, alongside a rooftop bar, contemporary dining, meeting spaces and a luxurious spa. Its modern take on 1950s style brings together specially sourced vintage pieces and bespoke furnishings, creating a timeless aesthetic. It caters to both business and leisure travellers while celebrating Portuguese culture through locally inspired cuisine, artisan products, and carefully curated details.
Fashionable Location
Nestled in the heart of Lisbon between Avenida da Liberdade and Príncipe Real, two of the city’s most fashionable neighbourhoods, the hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring. It is just a 25-minute taxi ride from the airport, close to metro and rail links, and offers secure underground parking.
Checking In
Stepping into the hotel feels a little like walking onto the set of Mad Men, with its cool and retro aesthetic. The reception team are warm and welcoming (a special mention to Paolo from São Paulo who gave the warmest welcome), offering plenty of local tips along with an in-house guide packed with restaurant recommendations, neighbourhood insights, and other useful information.
From reception, a small corridor leads into an airy lounge with an old-school bar, eclectic décor, quirky sofas, an old piano, lush plants and one-off art pieces. It is an immersive space, full of character and small details to explore.
Bold Rooms with Playful Touches
The hotel’s 56 rooms and three suites are designed in rich, bold palettes (natural green, deep blue and warm terracotta), each creating a distinct atmosphere in line with the hotel’s philosophy: inspire, relax and play. Signature old-fashioned bar carts created by Portuguese cocktail expert Nino Lopes add a playful touch, inviting guests to mix their own bespoke gin and tonics in-room. Generously, the first round of drinks from the minibar are on the house.
My room featured a palette of greens, browns and yellows, with heavy velvet curtains, crisp linens, and hardwood floors. The dark mid-century furniture, Bakelite phones, luxurious Claus Porto toiletries, and thoughtful local gifts, including a notepad, sardine magnet, and tote bag, all helped to make me feel comfortable and welcome.
Creative Dining
Located at street level, Blue Bistrot is a stylish and relaxed restaurant, ideal for everything from casual lunches to celebratory dinners. The menu celebrates modern Portuguese cuisine, with Chef João Silva bringing creativity to every dish, from inventive starters and sharing plates to hearty mains like mushroom risotto or slow-cooked pork shank. The gnocchi with Hokkaido pumpkin pesto, mushrooms, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes was delicious, and the crispy banana dessert is absolutely worth ordering. Guests can dine indoors or on the charming patio, framed by a striking vertical garden, while enjoying expertly crafted cocktails.
Breakfast at Blue Bistrot is plentiful, with a buffet of local cheeses, cured hams, smoked salmon, fresh fruit and Portuguese pastries, alongside a hot à la carte menu for dishes like eggs or pancakes.
The hotel also features a cosy lounge bar, The Hangout, and the beautiful fourth-floor V Rooftop Bar, where you can watch the sunset over the city with views stretching towards São Jorge Castle, accompanied by drinks and light bites.
To do
After a day exploring Lisbon’s cobbled hills, The Vintage Spa in the basement is the perfect place to unwind. The Tranquillity Water Lounge includes a sauna, steam room, chromatic pool and relaxation areas, along with a Vichy shower, three treatment rooms and a 24-hour gym.
For more rooftop views, take a 15-minute walk down to The Vintage’s sister hotel, The Lumiares, and its fifth-floor Lumi Rooftop Bar & Restaurant, where Chef João Silva serves a contemporary menu against the backdrop of the Tagus River. Like The Vintage, it is full of local charm and craftsmanship, and makes for an impressive photo spot.
If you are looking for something a little different, head to Zambeze Restaurant near São Jorge Castle for a unique blend of Portuguese “beirã” cuisine and bold Mozambican flavours; the curried coconut duck stew and fish fillet with coconut milk are standout dishes not to be missed.
For ease of travel, I booked my airport transfers with Welcome Pickups. Having everything pre-booked gave me peace of mind and my driver helpfully pointed out the city’s landmarks along the way, helping me get my bearings from the start.

I love that the hotel promotes local artists and businesses, who all come together to create a unique space that evokes a sense of nostalgia. All in all, The Vintage offers an authentic, comfortable, and elevated experience of Lisbon.
